Camp Muskoka’s Leader-In-Training (L.I.T.) program is offered to 2 week and 4 week campers age 14, 15 and 16. The activities offered are designed to strengthen our youths’ self confidence, expand their abilities and develop valuable life skills including communication, problem solving and conflict resolution.
The Leader-In-Training program operates alongside Camp Muskoka’s traditional summer camp, allowing our L.I.T.’s to take advantage of these great leadership workshops while still experiencing a wide variety of Camp Activities and Specialty Programs. As L.I.T.’s gain experience they will be encouraged to become more involved in mentoring some of our younger campers, while being supervised by our trained leadership team. The experiences gained through this program will refine the L.I.T.’s leadership skills, making them ideal prospects for future counselor positions. In addition, these acquired skills are applicable in almost any situation — whether it be in family, school, work or community, these life skills will prove invaluable. Throughout their training, L.I.T.’s will generate a manual that will help develop their organization and time management techniques thus once again equipping them with valuable life skills.
Campers staying for 4 weeks may take advantage of Camp Muskoka’s
incredible Skills Development Leadership Camp where in the third week, L.I.T.’s will have the opportunity to gain certifications in one of several areas of specialization: Lifesaving Society certifications will be offered including Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and N.L.S.; Canoeing flat water certifications where L.I.T.’s will learn fundamentals including safety guidelines, key strokes, rescue techniques and more; and Rock Climbing instruction where L.I.T.’s will learn about all required equipment and their applications, specific skills and techniques to instruct rock climbing safely as well as Paintball and land sport specialization.
Between weeks 3 & 4 all participants in the Skills
Development Leadership Camp will also have the opportunity to receive First Aid and C.P.R. training. In week four, Skills Development Leadership Campers will have the opportunity to apply their newly obtained skills in their area of specialization through our mentoring apprenticeship program. Camp Muskoka’s 2 week L.I.T. Program is a pre-requisite to participate in the Skills Development Leadership Camp.

Leadership Village consists of a series of large tents housing a total of 4 L.I.T’s each, set on wooden platforms which are equipped with 2 sets of bunk beds and storage areas for gear. Each platform has a free standing pole structure which supports a second fly offering extra protection from rain and sun, allowing the L.I.T.’s tent rooms to stay cool, dry, bug free and very comfortable. The male and female tents are separated by the common areas which consist of a large teepee and a camp fire pit. The counselling staff’s sleeping quarters are adjacent to the L.I.T.’s tents, offering both L.I.T.’s and staff privacy, while enabling the counselor to be immediately available to any L.I.T.’s needs.
To participate in the Leader-in-Training Program and/or the Skills Development Leadership Camp, all candidates will be required to complete an L.I.T. application form which will be forwarded following registration. Please see registration form for applicable fees.
